Trimble has recently introduced a new augmented reality (AR) solution with the ability for users to visualise 2D and 3D data on almost any project site with an internet or phone connection. This innovation is exciting for the construction industry and is sure to make a significant difference in the ease of planning and collaboration for site construction.

The system is named appropriately as SiteVision, aims to make planning, collaboration and reporting easier and more efficient. It combines hardware and software into a handheld or pole mounted device that views 3D models and assets in a real-world environment.

The hardware consists of the Trimble SiteVision Integrated Positioning System, which integrates the Trimble Catalyst DA1 Antenna, electronic distance measurement rangefinder and power management into a lightweight, handheld device that connects to an Android phone.

Software subscriptions are available to single users on a monthly or yearly basis. The SiteVision software subscription combines Trimble’s positioning services and cloud-based processing technology to create centimetre-accurate AR systems. It also uses Trimble’s processing to manage and deliver data and design models.
