Porthaul bulk storage shed
Project overview
Porthaul has established itself as a trusted leader in bulk haulage, logistics, and storage solutions — serving Victoria’s agricultural and industrial sectors with precision and reliability. When the Porthaul team required a purpose-built grain storage facility to support their expanding operations, they turned to Central Steel Build to design and deliver a large-scale, future-ready solution.
This project was significant in both scale and complexity — an 84 × 50 × 9 m structure designed to enhance operational efficiency and durability. Central Steel Build managed the entire process, supplying and installing the precast panels in partnership with Warrnambool Precast. Acting as the principal project manager, we coordinated multiple trades, resolved site challenges, and ensured the build stayed on track despite initial permitting delays.
Through collaboration and hands-on leadership, we delivered a facility that strengthens Porthaul’s operational capacity and stands as a benchmark for agricultural and industrial steel building performance in regional Victoria.

Project success and impact:
The Porthaul grain store project presented a series of technical and logistical challenges that highlighted our expertise in agricultural and industrial steel construction. The client needed a large-capacity, high-efficiency storage facility within a tight timeframe — critical for supporting their logistics-driven business in southwest Victoria.
Early planning and permit delays, combined with mid-design revisions such as purlin alignment corrections and unnecessary panel doors, threatened the schedule. Central Steel Build took ownership of the program, managing the build from end to end while coordinating with other contractors and trades. Our team also extended its usual scope to supply and install the precast panels, ensuring consistency and quality control.
Throughout the build, we maintained open communication, providing regular progress updates and working closely with all stakeholders to recover time and maintain momentum. The result: a robust, fit-for-purpose grain storage shed delivered on budget and to schedule — expanding Porthaul’s storage capacity and reinforcing their operational resilience for years to come.
