Challenges and solutions

The feedlot was to be built over existing yards on uneven ground so our challenge was to ensure the shed would not inhibit the working ability of the yards and was built to suit the lay of the land.

After surveying, 1.6m of fall was determined from the highest to the lowest point of the ground. Hence, we needed to design the building with a clearance height that would allow feed machines to operate underneath. However, wanting to minimise the required building height, our client asked us to slope the cantilever upwards and connect it to the main building with a box gutter to allow for machine access underneath.

“The shed enables us to manage the pen floor and dust. It keeps cattle more comfortable, cooler in summer and warm and dry in winter so it also enables us to manage the cleanliness of the cattle.”
