Craig Tate dairy building, dairy barn and machinery shed
Project overview
Craig Tate operates a dairy farm in Calderwood, NSW, near Wollongong, where he farms 500 to 600 cows across 1,000 acres. Following business growth and the need to relocate due to the construction of the Albion Park Bypass, Craig aimed to establish a modern, state-of-the-art dairy operation. This included a new dairy building, loafing barn, and machinery shed, all designed to accommodate a new rotary dairy system and comply with local height restrictions. To meet council requirements and improve visual appeal, Craig chose a curved roof design.
After thoroughly researching his options, Craig selected Central Steel Build for the project due to our can-do attitude, open-minded approach to design, and commitment to delivering cost-effective, value-engineered solutions.

Project success and impact:
Central Steel Build successfully navigated the challenges of the project by working closely with Craig throughout the process. As Craig chose to install the dairy building and hay shed himself, we focused solely on the installation of the dairy barn, maintaining regular communication with Craig to ensure he had everything needed from us at each stage.
For the dairy loafing barn, we faced the challenge of balancing cost and functionality. Rather than proceeding with a 50m clearspan building, we reduced the span to 40m and incorporated two 5m cantilevers, which effectively lowered costs while still meeting the required specifications.
This approach allowed us to deliver a high-quality result that aligned with Craig’s budget and operational needs.
